Positional lightsΒΆ

Positional lights are defined by their position and their surface shape. Those lights emit light directly from their surface in possibly all directions.

The positional ligths have different possible shapes controlled by the Light > Type attribute :

  • Point: the light is an infinitely small light, which emits light in all directions and casts sharp shadows
  • Sphere: the ligth is a sphere, which emits light in all directions and casts soft shadows.
  • Square: the ligth is a square or rectangle. Dependending on the Double Sided attribute, square lights emit light on one or both sides of the surface
  • Disc: the ligth is a disc or ellipse.

A Library/Lights/PointLight, a Library/Lights/PointLight with a Sphere type, a Library/Lights/SquareLight and a Library/Lights/DiscLight.

The positional lights can use gizmos to give a shape to the emitted light. There is some presets available in the library :

A Library/Lights/SpotLight, a Library/Lights/SquareSpotLight and a Library/Lights/SphereLight (a point light with a spherical gizmo).

Although it is possible to stretch a Sphere light by manipulating its transform, it is strongly recommended not to stretch it as it won't perform well. Lights/PointLight, Lights/SquareLight, Lights/SphereLight, Lights/SpotLight, Lights/SquareSpotLight, Lights/IESLight
